You’d
think that when it comes to guys, there’s only one thing they’re willing to
wear to the beach or pool. Well, that may be right here in North America. But
as soon as you go elsewhere in this world, you’ll find a completely different scenario.
Surprised?
I
know that to a lot of you, it would seem like a really strange scene to arrive
at a beach and see most (if not all) guys in speedos. My personal opinions
aside, I can understand why. But, perhaps it is time for us to begin expanding our
horizons when it comes to men’s swimwear. Let’s take a closer look to see if
you agree with me.
First
of all, I’m sure that when you think of “men in speedos”, this (or even worse!) is what comes to
mind.
I'd like for you to leave that image aside right now, and look at it from another perspective.
Look at the two guys in the pictures below. If you had to choose one, which one of them do you
think looks better?
I think it's pretty fair to say that, whomever it is that you went with, your decision wasn't based on the swimwear these guys were wearing. And what I mean by that is that neither of these two guys look more or less manly due to whatever it is they chose to wear to the beach. Leaving your personal preferences aside, both these guys could be on our hot list, wouldn't you agree?Still having trouble agreeing with me? No worries, let's keep on going.
If I'm being completely fair, I'd have to admit it’s a tough thing for me to weigh in, because I was born and raised in a place where men in speedos were a common thing. So, I'd like to take you down a different road.
During
this last trip, my brother-in-law was introduced to “speedo fashion” for the first
time in his life. Initially, he was not impressed with us (I guess we can’t
blame him, since it was one of his Christmas gifts!), but we had a chat with
him and suggested he try them out. My argument was that, if there’s ever a place
where you can try these out and not feel awkward, it’s at a beach in Brazil!
Not
so much to my surprise, but definitely to his, after his first walk down the
beach catwalk, he had completely blended in! And not only that, he actually had
good things to say about his speedos!! According to him they’re more
comfortable to swim in, when coming out of the water (there’s no fabric
glued to your legs!), and they also dry faster. And last but not least, he was
enjoying the extra sun his thighs were getting! “It’s definitely a more even
tan line", he mentioned. I loved the way he worded that!

Now,
I understand this may seem as if I’m trying to get each and every guy out there
to wear a speedo. But believe me, it’s not. At the end of the day we all want
to be comfortable in what we’re wearing, especially in a situation where our
bodies are a lot more exposed than usual. If you’re not the kind of guy who’s
ready for speedos, then by all means, wear your shorts and be happy. Although I feel that men could just as well benefit from an Oh My Swimsuit consultation, I'll always support personal comfort above all things.
I think
the main idea here is to let go of the stigma around speedos and their “less of
a man” portrayal. Same as it is for us women, men are also capable of crossing that line between what's appropriate and what simply doesn't look good. But that is not related to the speedo vs. shorts saga. Every guy should be able to decide for himself what he is or isn't comfortable with. And if they decide they look great in a speedo, then who are we to judge?I encourage you all to try on different suits, colors, and patterns, why would it be any different for the men out there?? Try on those speedos, guys! And when in doubt, I'm sure there will be plenty of women ready and waiting to give you an honest opinion, right ladies?
Now that you've seen what a nice speedo can do for a man, are you able to admit that you like them, even if just a little bit more than before you read this post?
Happy Friday you all!!
